“Star Wars,” the sci-fi epic starring Daisy Ridley and Mark Hamill, will earn an estimated $6,847 million at 3.7 million theaters in 2019, according to the industry’s most recent estimates.
That’s a big boost from the $5.7 billion earned last year.
It’s also the best opening ever for the Star Wars franchise.
The final weekend for the film grossed $9.3 million on Friday, making it the best ever for a Star Wars film.
The film will also surpass the $6 billion earned by last year’s Star Wars: Episode VII The Force Awakens, which is set for an opening weekend of $64.8 million.
The film has earned an estimated total of $1.08 billion at the domestic box office, according the estimates.
It is expected to continue to grow as it expands internationally.
Disney has already earned $18 billion from its properties this year, according a recent report from Forbes.
Disney has sold off its entire Marvel Studios slate in order to create an untapped universe of films.
It is now expected that Disney will release a film based on “The Avengers: Age of Ultron” in 2020.
That film will be a standalone story, which means it will have no connection to the other movies in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Disney CEO Bob Iger said in an interview with CNBC that “The Age of Apocalypse” is “something we’re very excited about.”
The Avengers franchise was one of the biggest hits of the year with $1 billion grossed.
It was followed by the upcoming Star Wars sequel, “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.”
