Houston Astros pitcher Jose Solano has been suspended for one game by Major League Baseball after he was caught on video hitting the Giants’ Buster Posey during the seventh inning of their game on Thursday.
The suspension will be retroactive to April 7, and the club issued a statement saying the “conduct was unacceptable.”
Solano, who has not been fined since being suspended, was ejected for the incident.
It is not clear if he is appealing.
In a video posted on Instagram by Posey’s agent Scott Boras, the pitcher can be seen throwing his bat to the ground, swinging his arm back and forth, and screaming in frustration.
The Giants won the game 7-6.
Posey hit back and was ejected with the Giants leading 3-2 in the seventh.
Solano was in the dugout, and was escorted out of the stadium.
The Astros, who have won eight of their last 11, are 2 1/2 games out of a wild-card spot.
